When does my car need its first MOT?
In England, Scotland and Wales a car needs its first MOT by the third anniversary of its registration, then every year after that. You can check the exact due date and your car’s full MOT history for free on GOV.UK using just the registration number.
How early can I get my MOT done?
You can have your MOT up to one month, minus a day, before the current certificate runs out and still keep the same renewal date. Booking early gives you time to sort any repairs without the car being off the road.
How long does an MOT take?
The test itself usually takes 45 minutes to an hour. Allow longer if the car needs repairs to pass. Tell us when you book if you need the car back by a certain time and we’ll plan the day around it.
What happens if my car fails its MOT?
You get a list of the dangerous or major faults. You can’t drive a car with a dangerous fault. We’ll explain each item, quote for the repair and, once you agree, fix it and arrange the retest so you’re back on the road quickly.
